Title: Comics
Post by: Dave on July 11, 2014, 04:53:07 pm
Does anyone else here read any comics? I got a tablet a few months ago so I also got the comixology app, which has led to me reading a lot more comics than I used to.

I've just finished volume 2 of Chew, but I'm also keeping up with The Walking Dead (read #129 last night). Have also read a couple of volumes of Fables, a few Batman GNs, some Deadpool, about 40 issues of Captain America (basically The Winter Soldier and Death of Captain America arcs). Really loving them as a light, fun way to spend an hour or so.

Actually... because I'm old enough that I pre-date Geek being Cool... I got into my line of work by starting out emulating comicbook art.  Now... to be fair I've kind of drifted away from being a regular comicbook reader - but I do keep an ear open for any good storylines that come out.

You have GOT to check out Old Man Logan.  Wolverine becomes a pascifist and all the heroes are either captured, killed or go into hiding because some major Marvel villains decide (on average) there's about 10-20 bad guys for every Hero, right?  So they just organize and start to wipe them out and take over the whole of the US.

That's just the general plot... the details of it all make it absolutely worth reading.  Seriously they need to turn THAT into a movie!

Otherwise, my comicbook reading isn't what it was, I sort of slipped away around the down slope of the Spawn series from Image... I guess more so than actual comicbooks - I more read Illustrated Novels comprised of comic series.  So - my tastes have more just matured along with me.... just neither has changed enough to totally forsake my love the the stories and art that go into them.

And as far as it goes... I like more of the off-brands, and I am a HUGE Marvel fan.  DC has it's gems, but not many of their best - are the ones they portray as their best.

Sounds interesting. I just put it on my Wish List on Comixology, it's $15 at the moment which is money I can wait to spend until I get through the rest of what I already have.

I am a traditionalist, I only buy physical books. My fiancé's sister is supposed to start working for Marvel so I started getting into some of the newer titles. Just got into a Marvel Cross Over that has the Watcher being found dead, which is mind blowing to me because again, old school traditionalist, and the Watcher is supposed to be forever. Also getting into the Carnage titles, Superior Carnage and Deadpool vs Carnage. The Harley Quinn series is pretty cool and I believe it's called Justice League United where with JLA being disband some of the former members, new characters, and unused characters go to Canada and fight crime. If you like crazy indie comics, Fairest and Coffin Hill are pretty cool too. Currently working on completing X-Men 10 - 100. Half way there and have more 20's thru 50's just to make sure I get the good ones. But if anyone wants to buy me an X-Men #2 with a 5.0 or higher I would be very appreciative lol.
